Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between third-party and comprehensive car insurance?
Third-party insurance is mandatory by law and covers damage or injury you cause to other people and their property. Comprehensive insurance also covers damage to your own car from accidents, theft, fire, floods and other events.
What is No Claim Bonus (NCB)?
NCB is a discount on your own-damage premium for every claim-free year, rising up to 50% after five years. It belongs to you, not the car, and can be carried over when you change your car or insurer.
What is IDV (Insured Declared Value)?
IDV is the maximum amount the insurer pays if your car is stolen or damaged beyond repair. It is the market value of the car minus depreciation. A higher IDV means a higher premium.
What happens if my car insurance policy expires?
You can lose the No Claim Bonus if the policy lapses for long, the car may need an inspection before renewal, and driving without valid insurance can attract a fine. Renew before the expiry date.
Which add-ons are worth buying?
Zero depreciation, engine protection, roadside assistance and return-to-invoice are the most useful, depending on how old your car is and where you drive. Compare the add-on cost against the cover it gives.
How do I make a claim?
Inform your insurer immediately, share photos and the policy details, file an FIR for theft or major accidents, and take the car to a network garage for cashless repairs.
